Hello Church Family,
Don’t forget to turn your clocks back an hour this weekend.
New City Catechism Question 7
What does the law of God require?
Personal, perfect, and perpetual obedience; that we love God with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength; and love our neighbor as ourselves. What God forbids should never be done and what God commands should always be done.
I was reminded this week that the Mosaic Law was given after God had redeemed Israel out of Egypt. So the Law wasn’t a way for Israel to earn their salvation through obedience, it was to show their obedience to their Saviour.
Similarly for us as believers. By obeying God we are showing our love for our Saviour, not earning our salvation. Conversely, what does it say about our hearts if we are not obeying God’s law?
Praise God that He has given believers in the New Covenant a new heart and new desires and the presence of the Holy Spirit to help us to keep God’s law. And praise God that Jesus is still our Saviour, even when we fail to keep this law.
