Mid-Week Thoughts from Pastor Ron – April 15, 2020

Many times when we pray we simply bring a list of wants to God without recognizing who he is and what he has done for us. The disciples never asked Jesus to teach them to heal or perform miracles or to turn water into wine. In the book of Luke, they  asked him to teach them one thing, “How to pray”, this should show us how important prayer is.

Notice the pattern of prayer Jesus give us.

Luke 11: 1-11 KJV:

11 And it came to pass, that, as he was praying in a certain place, when he ceased, one of his disciples said unto him, Lord, teach us to pray, as John also taught his disciples. And he said unto them, When ye pray, say,

Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, as in heaven, so in earth.

Give us day by day our daily bread. And forgive us our sins; for we also forgive every one that is indebted to us. And lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from evil.

Our Father, when we call God our Father it implies we are all brothers and sisters in Christ as we have the same Father. We are related.

When we pray we must first recognize God for who He is, (Holy be your name) and seek his kingdom to exist here on earth and for his will to be done.

Then look at how many times “us” is used, bringing the attention to ourselves.

Give us, forgive us and lead us deliver us. When we pray we should use this same pattern, God first, us second.

Give us our daily bread, give us enough to survive another day.

Forgive us for our sins daily and lead us where you want us to go and deliver us from evil.

Give us, forgive us, lead us, deliver us!
